Opening: June 25, 6-8pm, with book launch of PARKETT’s 25th anniversary volume no. 85
Carolina Nitsch is pleased to present “PARKETT - 25 Years”, a survey of selected
editions and volumes published by Parkett since 1984. The show includes new
works by Maria Lassnig, Beatriz Milhazes, Josh Smith and Jean-Luc Mylayne, as
well as rare editions by Ross Bleckner , Alighiero e Boetti , Louise Bourgeois,
Andreas Gursky, Jenny Holzer, Martin Kippenberger, Paul McCarthy, Mario Merz,
Jason Rhoades, and others.
Also on display are recent and out-of-print Parkett volumes from the past 25 years
and artists’ documents, sketches, letters and photographs illustrating the
collaborations between Parkett and the artists.
The Whitechapel Art Gallery in London remarked: “Commissioned by Parkett, …the most important artists of our time have created works that represent the
essence of their art or reveal an unexpected dimension … The works cover every
possible medium including painting, page art projects, photographs, drawings,
prints, sculptures, videos, DVD's and sound pieces.” Deborah Wye from the MoMA
observed: “The collections of The Museum of Modern Art contain numerous
examples of editions by the most significant artists of the modern period… The
editions commissioned by Parkett carry on this rich tradition… “.
To date Parkett has published 200 artists’ collaborations and editions with 85
volumes and 1400 texts, making it a large library and a small museum of
contemporary art. The exhibition also features the new CD Rom with all Parkett
INSERTS. This CD presents for the first time a survey of the signature INSERTS
made by artists for Parkett. Faithful to i ts core principle of working closely with
artists, up to now Parkett has invited 75 artists to work directly with the format
of the magazine and the offset printing process. The artists have each produced a
series of original artists’ pages, an ongoing study in the freedom within a book and
in the rhythm and flow of the pages.
The 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Japan, presents a 25
Year retrospective of all works made by artists for Parkett in September. A fully
illustrated catalogue raisonné, “200 Art Works – 25 Years”, will be published on
that occasion.
